Susan Loney

I was born and raised in Victoria. I completed my education here, first graduating from the University of Victoria with a B.A. in English Literature in 1989 and then from the UVic Faculty of Law in 1992. I was called to the Bar in 1993. After a period of time working for other law firms, I started my own practice in 2000. I now share office space with Wendy Zimmerman and Val Hemminger.
My practice is largely restricted to family law, although I also work on real estate and wills files. I completed the Family Law Mediation Course in July 1997.

Personally, I have been active in and around Victoria all of my life. I am a former member of the UVic women's basketball team (national champions in 1985). I worked and volunteered as a basketball coach, both before and during Law School. I am a former Board member of the Family Violence Prevention Society and a founding member and former president of the Coalition of Langford Residents. I have been a resident of Langford since 1993.

Having worked in family law for 10 years, I am very pleased to now be involved with the Collaborative Law group. One of my primary goals as a family law lawyer has been to help people remain focused on the needs of their children during difficult and emotional times. Collaborative Law provides a process whereby people can resolve their difficulties and keep the best interests of their children at the forefront. This focus is too often lost when cases are litigated.

Wendy Zimmerman

"Although I am originally from the prairies, I have lived in this beautiful city since 1989, when I began law school at the University of Victoria. I have been called to the bar for 10 years and practice family law exclusively.

Resolving family issues can be difficult and stressful. I focus on a practical approach and aim to bring creativity and sensitivity to the
problem-solving process."
